LEGIONELLA

Pre-poured Culture Media for Legionella detection:

  • Legionella Acid Buffer
  • BCYE Agar (Buffered charcoal yeast extract agar)
  • BCYE-cys Agar (Buffered charcoal yeast extract agar without L-cysteine)
  • GVPC Agar (Glycine vancomycin polymyxin B cycloheximide agar)

GVPC Agar (Glycine Vancomycin Polymyxin Cycloheximide) is a medium recommended by ISO 11731:2017 for the isolation of Legionella and estimation of their numbers in water samples.

Other Organisms

As well as Legionella SGL also provides a standard suite of ready prepared media for all water testing applications ranging from standard agar through to chromogenic media.

  • E.coli & Coliforms (such as MLGA agar)
  • Pseudomonas (such as Pseudomonas CFC and CN Agar)
  • Enterococci (such as Slanetz & Bartley Agar)
  • Clostridium perfringens (such as Perfringens TSC Agar)
  • General recovery (such as R2A agar)

SGL also supplies a Rapid Legionella latex confirmation assay for identification of Legionella pneumophila serogroup 1 and serogroups 2-15 and non-L.pneumophila species of clinical significance grown on selective media.

All media conforms to the formulation and performance requirements of ISO 11731:2017 Water quality – Enumeration of Legionella

Culture media test methods are accredited by UKAS for compliance with ISO/IEC 17025.
