Description

8403 –

Membrane Lactose Glucuronide Agar (MLGA), 55mm Plate is a ready-to-use prepared plate supplied by SGL for detection and enumeration of Escherichia coli and coliform organisms in water samples. It is suitable for use in water testing; environmental testing. This product is relevant to microbiology workflows described in ISO 9308-1 water quality E. coli/coliform workflows; UK Microbiology of Drinking Water methods.

Membrane Lactose Glucuronide Agar (MLGA) contains X-glucuronide chromogen (BCIG: 5-bromo-4-chloro-3-indolyl-ß-D-glucuronide) which facilitates the presumptive detection of Escherichia coli by the presence of green coloured colonies.
The presence of lauryl sulphate inhibits Gram positive organisms. The dye phenol red is added to help in the differentiation of E.coli and coliform organisms. It helps in the lactose fermentation process as it gives colonies a yellow appearance when there is a production of acid. Coliforms are lactose positive so will have a yellow appearance. E.Coli is also lactose positive and due to the glucuronidase which produces a blue colour, E.coli presents as green.
