Description
9087 – Yeast Extract Agar (YEA), Syrup is a pre-prepared agar bottle supplied by SGL. It is suitable for use in water testing; environmental testing. This product is relevant to microbiology workflows described in ISO 6222 colony count in water workflows. It is a medium used for the enumeration of microorganisms in potable and freshwater samples. The medium complies with the specification of the Microbiology of Drinking Water part 7 – methods for the enumeration of heterotrophic bacteria and with ISO 11133.
SGL manufacture in compliance with ISO 9001 (Ref No FM37824) and tested in accordance with ISO11133 by a UKAS (ISO 17025) accredited laboratory (Ref No. 4356), and if requested by the customer, will perform additional specification testing.
Yeast Extract Agar (YEA) is made up of yeast extract, peptone and agar. The yeast extract provides vitamins, minerals, amino acids and other essential growth promoters. The peptone proves amino acids, peptides and nitrogen which are required for microbial growth. Agar is a solidifying agent which allows micro-organisms to grow in/on a solid environment. Agar is a mostly inert substance which doesn’t interfere with the growth of micro-organisms.
