Description

9001 – SGL supplies Tryptone Soya Agar (TSA) (EP/USP), Universal Slope as a prepared bottled medium for general-purpose cultivation, environmental monitoring and microbial recovery in routine microbiological quality control. It is suitable for pharmaceutical microbiology, environmental monitoring, cosmetics and personal-care testing. Where applicable, the product supports workflows described in USP <61> and <62>, Ph. Eur. 2.6.12 and 2.6.13, and the performance-testing principles of ISO 11133.

Tryptone Soya Agar (TSA) (EP/USP), also known as casein soya bean digest agar, provides a non-selective, non-differential, general-purpose medium for cultivating and isolating fastidious and non-fastidious microorganisms. Its nutrient-rich formulation supports the growth of a wide range of bacteria, yeasts and moulds.

Tryptic digest of casein and peptic digest of soya bean meal supply complementary peptides and amino acids, creating a rich and balanced nutrient profile that supports microbial recovery and growth. Sodium chloride maintains the osmotic balance of the medium, while agar acts as the solidifying agent and provides a stable surface for colony development.

Laboratories use TSA for a variety of applications, including maintaining stock cultures, isolating pure cultures, performing microbial enumeration and using the medium as a reference during performance testing. In clinical microbiology, TSA can support the isolation of microorganisms for further identification and testing, which may help inform treatment decisions.

SGL manufactures and quality-controls the product to its internal specifications and in compliance with ISO 9001 (reference FM37824). A UKAS-accredited laboratory operating to ISO/IEC 17025 (accreditation number 4356) tests the product in accordance with ISO 11133. At the customer’s request, the laboratory can also perform additional specification testing.
