Sabouraud Dextrose Agar, 90mm Plate
A medium for the isolation of yeasts and other fungi. SDA is naturally acidic, thus inhibiting the growth of bacteria but allowing yeasts and fungi to grow.
90mm SDA plates are available in packs of 10 with a shelf life of 12 weeks from manufacture.
Description
8081 – Sabouraud Dextrose Agar is a medium designed to recover yeasts and moulds as described in the European Pharmacopoeia (EP) 2.6.12, United States Pharmacopeia (USP) <61> and ISO 11133. Initially formulated for the cultivation of dermatophytes, it is also now commonly used for the cultivation and isolation of other yeasts and moulds whilst inhibiting bacterial growth. This is due to the medium’s slightly acidic environment with favours fungi and dermatophytes.
Peptone provides a source of nitrogen and vitamins, dextrose (used at a high concentration) provides a carbon energy source. Agar is the solidifying agent which gives the medium a stable surface for colonisation.
Further selectivity is achievable with the addition of antibiotic supplements such as chloramphenicol, gentamicin, or tetracycline.
SGL manufacture in compliance with ISO 9001 (Ref. No. FM37824) and tested in accordance with ISO 11133 by a UKAS (ISO 17025) accredited laboratory (Ref. No. 4356). If requested by the customer, he laboratory may perform additional specification testing.
