3506 – Lysine Agar, Syrup is a ready-to-use bottle product supplied by SGL for routine microbiological testing. It is suitable for use in brewing industry. Manufactured and quality controlled to SGL internal specifications.
Lysine Agar is a complex, synthetic medium used for the isolation and enumeration of wild yeasts in pitching yeasts in the brewing industry. It allows selective growth and accurate detection of contaminants as it exploits differential behaviours of yeasts. Most Saccharomyces strains used in the brewing industry and other fermentative industries do not use lysine whereas wild stains do have the ability to utilise lysine. Wild strains can include; Candida, Pichia and Zygosaccharomyces.
The medium contains vitamins and trace elements which support the metabolic activity of the yeast. Lysine is the sole source of nitrogen whereas dextrose is the source of fermentable carbohydrate. Phosphate buffers the medium and sodium chloride provides osmotic balance.
SGL manufactures and quality-controls the product to its internal specifications and in compliance with ISO 9001 (reference FM37824). A UKAS-accredited laboratory operating to ISO/IEC 17025 (accreditation number 4356) tests the product. At the customer’s request, the laboratory can also perform additional specification testing.
