9030 – SGL supplies Buffered Peptone Water in a ready-to-use Winchester bottle format for non-selective pre-enrichment and sample dilution in food, water and product microbiology testing. It is suitable for pharmaceutical microbiology, water testing and environmental testing. The product supports relevant ISO food microbiology pre-enrichment workflows and, where applicable, ISO 11133.
Buffered Peptone Water provides a nutrient-rich environment that supports the recovery of bacteria sublethally injured by food-processing procedures. Laboratories primarily use the medium to pre-enrich pathogenic Enterobacteriaceae, including Salmonella and Cronobacter species, in food, animal feed and water samples.
Non-selective pre-enrichment allows stressed or injured cells to repair and multiply before laboratories transfer them to selective media. Maintaining a stable pH during this stage supports cell recovery because acidic conditions can inhibit cellular repair. The phosphate buffer protects bacteria from damaging changes in pH, while sodium chloride maintains osmotic balance. Peptone supplies nitrogen, carbon, vitamins, minerals and other nutrients required for growth.
Laboratories can also use Buffered Peptone Water for sample preparation, stock suspensions and serial dilutions. Where applicable, it can serve as a suspension and resuscitation medium when enumerating Listeria monocytogenes.
SGL manufactures and quality-controls the product to its internal specifications and in compliance with ISO 9001 (reference FM37824). A UKAS-accredited laboratory operating to ISO/IEC 17025 (accreditation number 4356) tests the product. At the customer’s request, the laboratory can also perform additional specification testing.
