7645 -Raka Ray Agar + 7ppm Cycloheximide + 1% Tween 80, 90mm plate is a ready-to-use prepared plate medium supplied by SGL for routine microbiological testing. It is suitable for use in the brewing sector. Manufactured and quality controlled to SGL internal specifications.
Raka Ray Agar + 7ppm Cycloheximide + 1% Tween 80 is a high quality medium used for the selective isolation of lactic acid bacteria in beer and the brewing process. It is used for the cultivation of Lactobacilli and Pediococci, whilst suppressing non-lactic acid facultative bacteria associated with spoilage. Lactobacillaceae occurring in the brewing process are important spoilage organisms due to products produced from their growth and metabolism are often detrimental to the taste of the product. Raka Ray Agar does require supplementation with phenyl-ethanol, sorbitan mono-oleate (SGL use Polysorbate 80) and cycloheximide.
The basal ingredients supply carbon, nitrogen, amino acids, trace elements and other essential nutrients for microbial growth. Maltose supports the growth and detection of lactobacilli, while fructose supports the recovery of Lactobacillus fructivorans. Glucose provides an energy source for Pediococcus species.
Magnesium and manganese supply essential mineral nutrients that support the growth of lactobacilli. Sorbitan monooleate (Polysorbate 80) stimulates the growth of lactic acid bacteria. whilst cycloheximide suppresses yeasts and moulds.
SGL manufactures and quality-controls the product to its internal specifications and in compliance with ISO 9001 (reference FM37824). A UKAS-accredited laboratory operating to ISO/IEC 17025 (accreditation number 4356) tests the product. At the customer’s request, the laboratory can also perform additional specification testing.
