A selective medium for the isolation and presumptive confirmation of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, including proteolytic activity by casein hydrolysis, from water and environmental samples.
Description
7042 -SGL manufactures Milk Agar + Cetrimide as a ready-to-use, pre-poured 90 mm plate for water and environmental testing.
Milk Agar + Cetrimide supports the detection, enumeration and presumptive identification of Pseudomonas aeruginosa in water and environmental samples. P. aeruginosa produces pyocyanin, which creates characteristic blue-green pigmentation and strongly supports its presumptive identification. The organism also hydrolyses casein, producing clear zones around the colonies.
Peptone, yeast extract and skimmed milk supply carbon, nitrogen, vitamins and other nutrients that support bacterial growth. Sodium chloride maintains osmotic balance, while agar solidifies the medium and provides a stable surface for colony development. Cetrimide, a quaternary ammonium compound, suppresses a broad range of competing microorganisms, including many other Pseudomonas species, while allowing cetrimide-resistant P. aeruginosa to grow.
SGL manufactures and quality-controls the product to its internal specifications and in compliance with ISO 9001 (reference FM37824). A UKAS-accredited laboratory operating to ISO/IEC 17025 (accreditation number 4356) tests the product. At the customer’s request, the laboratory can also perform additional specification testing.
