Selective isolation and enumeration of coagulase-positive staphylococci.
Baird-Parker Agar (BPA), 90mm Plate is a ready-to-use prepared plate supplied by SGL for selective isolation and detection of Staphylococcus aureus, identifiableby the formation of a clear halo surrounding the colonies.
Baird-Parker Agar (BPA), 90mm Plate is suitable for food and animal feed & other sample types and complies with the specifications in EN ISO 6888, FDA-BAM, APHA and ISO 11133.
Sodium pyruvate promotes selective growth, while egg yolk emulsion supports differentiation. The medium encourages the growth of Staphylococcus aureus while inhibiting most other bacteria. Coagulase-positive Staphylococci are able to reduce tellurite , which produces the black colouring of the colony.
