SDA Surfacecheck® N (Sabouraud Dextrose Agar + Neutralisers) Irradiated Contact Plate primarily recovers yeasts and moulds. European Pharmacopoeia (EP) 2.6.12 and United States Pharmacopeia (USP) <61> describe the base medium.

The medium contains several neutralising agents that reduce the growth-inhibiting effects of potentially interfering or antimicrobial substances. SGL triple-wraps and irradiates the contact plates to ensure sterility. Cleanroom operators can use them to monitor the bioburden of flat surfaces where disinfectant residues may be present.

Neutralisation:

  • Histidine neutralises aldehydes.
  • Tween 80 and lecithin: Tween 80 helps solubilise and disperse lecithin throughout the medium. Tween 80 neutralises quaternary ammonium compounds (QACs), parabens and iodine, while lecithin neutralises QACs, bis-biguanides and parabens. Together, they support the neutralisation of phenolics and alcohols.
  • Sodium thiosulphate neutralises chlorine, bromine-based compounds and aldehydes.

A UKAS-accredited laboratory operating to ISO/IEC 17025 (accreditation No. 4356) tests the product. SGL can also perform additional specification testing at the customer’s request.
