Description
0536 – Sabouraud Dextrose Agar (EP/USP), Syrup is a ready-to-use prepared agar bottle supplied by SGL for isolation and enumeration of yeasts and moulds in pharmaceutical, cosmetic, food and environmental samples. It is suitable for use in pharmaceutical microbiology; environmental monitoring; cosmetics and personal care. This product is relevant to microbiology workflows described in USP <61>/<62> and Ph. Eur. 2.6.12/2.6.13 workflows where applicable; ISO 11133 performance testing principles where applicable.
Sabouraud Dextrose Agar (EP/USP) was originally formulated for culturing dermatophytes and is now primarily used for the cultivation, isolation and enumeration on yeasts and moulds whilst inhibiting growth of bacterial colonies due to the mediums slightly acidic environment. Further selectivity is achievable with the addition of antibiotic supplements, for example chloramphenicol.
Peptone provides nitrogen and vitamins, dextrose is the carbon energy source where agar is the solidifying agent giving the micro-organisms a stable, flat surface for recovery.
SGL manufactures and quality-controls the product to its internal specifications and in compliance with ISO 9001 (reference FM37824). A UKAS-accredited laboratory operating to ISO/IEC 17025 (accreditation number 4356) tests the product in accordance with ISO 11133. At the customer’s request, the laboratory can also perform additional specification testing.
