Description

9065 – SGL supplies Plate Count Agar (PCA), Syrup as a prepared bottled medium for routine microbiological testing. Applications include pharmaceutical microbiology, environmental monitoring and testing, water testing, and food and animal-feed analysis.

Laboratories use Plate Count Agar (PCA) to determine the total aerobic colony count of mesophilic and psychrotrophic bacteria in food, animal feed and other sample types. The medium supports methods described in ISO 17410:2001, ISO 4833-1:2013 and ISO 4833-2:2013, as well as methods published by the American Public Health Association (APHA), AOAC International and the FDA Bacteriological Analytical Manual.

PCA, also known as Standard Methods Agar, Tryptone Glucose Yeast Agar or Casein-Peptone Dextrose Yeast Agar, provides a non-selective, nutrient-rich environment that supports the growth of a broad range of non-fastidious aerobic bacteria.

Casein peptone and yeast extract supply amino acids, vitamins, minerals, carbon and nitrogen. Dextrose provides a fermentable carbohydrate that microorganisms can use for energy, while agar solidifies the medium and provides a stable surface for colony development.

SGL manufactures and quality-controls the product to its internal specifications and in compliance with ISO 9001 (reference FM37824). A UKAS-accredited laboratory operating to ISO/IEC 17025 (accreditation number 4356) tests the product in accordance with ISO 11133. At the customer’s request, the laboratory can also perform additional specification testing.
