8126 – Chromogenic Listeria Selective Agar, 90mm Plate is a ready-to-use prepared plate supplied by SGL for selective detection and enumeration of Listeria species in food, environmental and hygiene samples. It is suitable for use in food and beverage; contract testing laboratories. It is based on the Ottaviani and Agosti Listeria agar detailed in ISO 11290-1:2017. Chromogenic Listeria Selective Agar allows direct differentiation of Listeria species based on colour and enzymatic reaction of the colonies.

The medium contains 5-bromo-4-chloro-3-indolyl-β-D-glucopyranoside which is the chromogen which allows the enzymatic reaction of β-glucosidase to produce a blue/green colony. It is able to differentiate Listeria monocytogenes from other Listeria species by the production of phosphatidylinositol-specific phospholipase.  Listeria monocytogenes is able to hydrolyse the lecithin in the medium, producing an opaque halo around the colony.

Polymixin B/Nalidixic acid – suppresses growth of Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria.

Ceftazidime – provides broad spectrum activity against Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria. It is a common chromogenic substrate in the identification of β-glucosidase, helping the presumptive identification of Listeria species.
